Real Voices – Winner of Amati Guildhall Creative Entrepreneurs’ Award 2018

29 June 2018

Amati are delighted to announce that Real Voices is the winner of the 5th Annual Amati Guildhall Creative Entrepreneurs’ Award 2018.

We saw three excellent pitches from Real Voices, Soundcastle & Alexandra Dariescu Productions. The judges of the Award were impressed with all three, however felt that Becky Chalmers from Real Voices delivered the best case and pitch for the Award on this occasion.

Becky graduated from Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2012. Following this, she spent two years on on the Island of Montserrat in the Caribbean on a project to inspire the youth of the island to make music. She worked in the community and schools devising and delivering new, sustainable music projects. Whilst working there, she discovered a new passion for working with people to bring their musical potential, witnessing first hand the power that music has to change lives and bring people together. This experience helped inspire her to form Real Voices, a weekly choir group. They now have four choirs rehearsing weekly and are planning a fifth in September 2018.

Mission: "To challenge expectations of what a non-auditioned choir can achieve through enabling people to sing to the best of their ability in a playful, nurturing environment. To improve lives and bring communities together through the uniting and empowering act of group singing".

The judging panel said that as well as giving an impressive presentation, Becky’s choirs were helping to transform the lives of the members in South London, providing support and camaraderie, together with original, high quality music. They felt that the award would help Becky grow and develop the business in a sustainable way.

Becky reflects on the event and the Award: "It was a real privilege to pitch at the event alongside inspiring creative entrepreneurs I really admire. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our businesses in a supportive yet challenging environment. I am thrilled to have won the award which will be transformational for Real Voices at this stage, allowing us to build a solid foundation upon which we can grow further and reach more people."
